What the Annapurna Trek Has To Offer


Annapurna trek is referred to the different treks or trek routes that are present in the Annapurna region. These treks are both of long and short durations and can be chosen on personal choice. The Annapurna region is referred to Nepal’s North Western area and is famous for having some of the most beautiful and popular trek routes.

The region’s trek routes start from the lake city, Pokhara offering the famous treks of Annapurna base camp, Annapurna circuit, Jomsom, Manang, Mustang and other treks around the Annapurna mountains. Some of the famous short treks in the region include Ghandruk and Sikles. Annapurna region in terms of area offers a contrast of some of the driest, windiest and wettest parts in Nepal. Short descriptions of some of these amazing hiking Annapurna areas are given below.

Annapurna Base Camp

This is one of the famous Nepal Annapurna trekking route, comprising of the great western parts of the Annapurna Himal. The high peaks of this area form a circle with a 10 miles diameter disclosing a deep (glacier filled) amphitheatre in between. The glacier basin in this area is also known as the Annapurna sanctuary.  Further on the in the south, the deep, narrow and wide gorges open up to a fertile valley. The Modi Khola area where most of the gorges are, offer some other famous small trek routes.

Annapurna Circuit

The most famous of all trekking routes in the region, this route requires about three weeks to be completed. The uniqueness of this trek lies in its scenic beauty which has something new to offer every passing day. The route encompasses within high Himalayas, Trans Himalayan deserts plateaus, forested mountains and some very beautiful landscapes.

The lower region of the Annapurna circuit includes areas of Magar, Gurung, Brahmin and Thakali. As you move on forward to the north, the Tibetan culture starts to become evident.

Annapurna Panorama Route

This Annapurna trek is a short and colorful foray towards the region. On this route you will have to cross icy waterfalls, mossy forests and patchwork valleys. On the way, to and fro you will come across beautiful views of the high mountains, horizons of which will be further revealed as the trail ascends.

This trek is basically located in the foothills of the Annapurna, where trekkers also come across local villages that are inhabited by the Gurungs and the Magars.  Not only is the area rich is natural scenic beauty but also offers a chance to cherish the abundant and colorful wildlife that the region is enriched with.

Jomsom Muktinath

This is another famous Nepal trekking Annapurna route at the North of Pokhara. Here the diversity of Nepal’s culture is highlighted to its optimum  and the high mountains and deep valleys that encircle the great mountain of Annapurna offers a wide variety of terrains and people, ranging from dry and high landscapes to the subtropical jungle. 755 of Annapurna’s trekkers visit this route every year.

Mustang
 
This route offers a trans Himalayan Annapurna trek experience offering a touch o0f the region’s culture as well. This route not only attracts trekkers but pilgrims as well, as the site is considered to be holy by both the Hindus and the Buddhists.  Being an upper rainy shadow area, the route can also be visited in a rainy season.

Manang

The eastern Annapurna part from the Marsyangdi river follows upstream to this trek route. The area inhabits seven villages lined together, forming the trekking trail of the Annapurna circuit. The area offers a taste similar to the Tibetan plateau, being a rocky terrain dotted at intervals by turquoise lakes, one of which is the world’s highest, the Lake Tilicho.
